Welcome to Paide English Club!

Paide English Club that is being established in April 2004 is meant for people who have obtained a certain level of English and who wish through active communication develop and improve their language skills.
Communication, communication and communication - this is our motto. Experience show that the best way to learn a language is to spend time in the language environment. The club members meet socially round the coffee table. The aim is to imagine us in different situations in some foreign country where it is possible to communicate only in English, the only remedies being our hands, legs and a dictionary if necessary. The emphasis is very much on practising the spoken language, on developing the ability to make us understandable, not on grammar constructions.
We have made a plan for initial activities according to which each club event carries a leading subject related to some current news or holidays in English-speaking countries. Conversations are very informal, so during one evening it is possible to cover a lot of different topics. Each person can express their opinions on different things and drag other people into some interesting discussion. Before leaving we usually play a joyful linguistic game. We also celebrate the members' birthdays and name days.
Participation in the club is free right now. Maybe in the future when we wish to organize some special events or trips and invite guests it might be necessary to establish a membership fee. At first 12 people were interested in participating in the club's events. During these years there have been 20 members. By now there is left nine certain members and one member who comes sometimes, an Estonian man who has lived in Australia for 50 years and now is back in Estonia again.
Of course our club can be changed. What kind of club this will be, it depends on us and on possible new members. GOOD IDEAS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME!!
The club meets on Wednesdays 17.30-20.00 at Pikk 21-1 Paide. Bring along high spirits! Some interesting pieces of writing that you would like to discuss with others and some snacks are also advisable (in case you really don't have time for it, just come the way you are).
